Safflower Seeds
Safflower seeds are primarily grown for safflower oil, a heart-healthy alternative to other vegetable oils due to its high unsaturated fat content. Besides oil extraction, safflower seeds are also used in dyes, cosmetics, and as bird feed. The plant is drought-resistant with deep roots, allowing it to grow well in arid and semi-arid regions.
Produces spiny green shoots that develop into flowering plants with yellow, orange, or red flowers.
6-10 days
Ready in 120-150 days. Harvested when flower heads dry and seeds are extracted after threshing.
Sown in loamy soil at a depth of 3-5 cm with 20-30 cm spacing. Requires minimal irrigation and thrives in dry conditions.
